MOKA

MOKA is the name of a special quilt study group with members from the states of MO, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas. MOKA! Formed February 28, 2003 at a meeting in Joplin,MO, MOKA meets three times a year where its members arrange special programs and train themselves in the history of quilt making. Our members are dedicated to learning as much as possible about this very special part of women's history. We count among the members, women who participated in the state quilt searches and wrote the books about these searches. We are teachers, lecturers, book writers, pattern designers and above all a little obsessed with quilts. Our meetings usually have a theme such as Hawaiian quilts, Redwork, Applique, red and green quilts, catalogs, kit quilts and more.

This summer we met in Columbia, MO to learn about and see family quilts.

A Flowering of Friendship

This is a design inspired by the complex appliqué of the Baltimore album period. I tried to include as many of the elements I admire as possible without overdoing the finished block.
